Yakutat Man is One of ‘The Magnificent Seven’

Martin Sensmeier, a 32-year-old actor from Yakutat, is co-starring in a major motion picture, “The Magnificent Seven.” In the film, which opened Friday, Sensmeier shares the screen with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. 

The movie is a remake of the 1960 western version starring Yul Brynner, and also the 1954 Japanese film “Seven Samurai.”

The three-day conference started Monday. It is hosted by the Arctic Council and looks at innovative approaches to solving a problem which plagues the entire Arctic region.

Governor Bill Walker called for a special session last night minutes after Legislators adjourned. Legislators hadn’t approved an operating budget for the fiscal year starting July first.

From an Anchorage Police Department On Sunday, May 15, 2016 APD Officer Mitchel Veenstra was dispatched to respond to a vehicle that had rolled and caught on fire on Middlerock Road. It was reported that the sole male occupant of the vehicle had his arm trapped under the vehicle and could not get free. Thanks to the heroic acts of nearby citizens and Officer Veenstra, a life was saved on this day. See the video of the rescue here.
