Alaska Native Corporations take heat for raking in billions of dollars thanks to special advantages in Small Business Administration program

10/11/2010 – In eight years, Native corporations took in almost 24 billion dollars through the SBA 8(a) program. The corporations have advantages over others taking part in the program, including no dollar cap on sole source contracts. Critics say shareholders aren't getting enough benefit from the profits. Three corporations join the critics in calling for reform.

Candidates for U.S. Senate give positions on issues affecting Alaska Natives, 10/8/10

10/8/10 – Candidates Scott McAdams (D), Joe Miller (R), and Lisa Murkowski(R)took part in a forum hosted by the Alaska Native Professional Associaton. Speaking to a crowd of more than 250 people, they each described their positions on subsistence, tribal sovereignty, the Small Business Administration Section 8(a) program, and earmarks.
