Newscast: Miller leads Murkowski in primary, two planes crash, NMFS extends comment period on proposal to close fisheries in part of the Aleutians

Anchorage, AK – Joe Miller leads Senator Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary. A search is underway for a plane lost in Katmai National Park, and a plane is found with two dead aboard. Plummeting sea lion populations lead to a National Marine Fisheries Service proposal to close fishing in parts of the Aleutians. NMFS extends the comment period on the proposal.

Electronics recycling center profiting despite slow economy

Anchorage, AK – The recycling center has several personal touches including: a display of old electronic equipment, including a 1940s radio, and a vision statement that reflects the Cherokee, Yaqui and Mexican heritage of the manager. The company started in a garage, and has grown by leaps and bounds. A municipal landfill staff person says the company has changed the public perception of electronics recycling.
