Anchorage, AK – Lawmakers consider a bill to prevent voter fraud.
Tribes in southwest Alaska say giving tribal courts more authority to prosecute non-tribal members would benefit the larger community. Language inserted by Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski into the Violence Against Women Act specifically exempts Alaska tribes from gaining that authority while it extends it to lower 48 tribes.
After a chilly two days, the Southwest Alaska village of Tuluksak has power again thanks to an engine sent by the Alaska Energy Authority, and community volunteers who helped install it.
