6/25/14 KNBA News - Salmon fisheries open on the Kuskokwim River

Enough king salmon have gone upriver to spawn so state biologists opened the lower Kuskokwim salmon fishery on Friday; it had been closed since May 20.

Alaska ranks 5th in the nation for its long-term care services for older adults, the disabled, and family caregivers, according to a national report. But local experts say the gaps in the system can cause big problems. Remedies include broader support for family caregivers, and higher standards for assisted living facilities. The report ranked Alaska 38th in affordability and access, quite low considering the report found the cost of long term care and supports are unaffordable for middle-income families in all states.
