Anchorage, AK – Families make up a large percentage of the homeless, and shelters for families fill up quickly. The Municipality of Anchorage has adopted an ordinance and plan that allows faith-based and social services organizations to become designated shelters for homeless families when the temperature falls below 32 degrees outside. Interested organizations develop a plan. If it passes muster, they get a health and safety inspection. Just days after the application process was announced, several churches are already at work on developing their plans.
