As Heard on Morning Line: Wasilla Meals on Wheels Large Donation from Walmart

Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc.

Peter Host, Development Specialist says Walmart recently donated of $55,000 to the Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc., specifically the Meals-On-Wheels program.  Host says the program serves those who can't get out of the house, and may otherwise go hungry.  This is the second year Walmart has donated to the program.

Host says the money isn't the only thing Walmart has contributed - more than a dozen employees volunteered at the Miles for Meals 5k Fundraising Run this past June, and also returned to the build planter boxes and donate flowers to the seniors.  "As you can guess, the folks here just loved them." Host says.

This particular Meals on Wheels program served more than 106,000 meals last year, and the meals cost roughly $10 each.  With an estimated 110,000 meals this year, the donation means about 5% of the meals will be covered by Walmart.   For more information, as well as to donate, checking out their website: www.wasillaseniors.com or  Facebook page.
