KNBA News - Phone Scammers Impersonating State Troopers Tell Citizens to Pay Up To Avoid Arrest

Anchorage Police Department: Beware of Phone Scam Impersonating Alaska State Troopers and Law Enforcement

The Anchorage Police Department (APD) Friday [Nov. 20] issued a statement warning against scammers pretending to be Alaska State Troopers and attempting to collect money in order for the citizen to avoid arrest.
This Message is from your Alaska State Troopers-
BEWARE OF SCAM PHONE CALLS: It may start with a call to your phone from someone claiming to be with law enforcement. The caller claims you have arrest warrants or you missed a court date and will be arrested if you don’t pay the fines. They may ask for personal information and have you call a number and talk to a clerk. They may tell you to purchase prepaid charge cards and take them to the police station after you give the card information to the suspect caller.
The Alaska State Troopers will not ask for payment over the phone or offer to negotiate for reduced payment in lieu of arrest. If you are concerned that you may have a warrant for your arrest with the AST, you can look at the active warrants website:http://dps.alaska.gov/AST/warrants/

There were four such incidents in the Anchorage area the week of Nov 16-20 that were reported to the Anchorage Police Department.

If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, contact your local law enforcement.
