KNBA News - Police advise: Don't Be a Victim of Stolen Vehicle Spree

Advisory: APD warning drivers to not leave keys in vehicle for warm up following spree of stolen vehicles

Anchorage police are warning motorists to not leave their keys in their vehicle to warm it up following a spree of stolen vehicles over the past two days.

Yesterday, APD received 13 reports of stolen vehicles and police have already received three reports of stolen vehicles this morning. A majority of these cases include incidents where the drivers left their keys in their running vehicle to warm it up.

As of this morning, one vehicle was reported to have been stolen off of Hoyt Street around 6:30 a.m. Another vehicle was reported stolen on E 11th Avenue at 6:34 a.m. and the third vehicle was reported stolen on Meadow View Drive at 8:07 a.m.

Here are the following vehicle descriptions for the vehicles that were stolen this morning:

-Red 1991 Chevy Truck with a red tonneau cover and license plate “FJB112”

-White 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser with pink rims and license plate “OMYHEC”

-Blue 2012 Ford Fusion with license plate “GJB444”

If you see any of these vehicles, please contact police dispatch at 786-8900 and press “0” to speak with a dispatcher.

Police would like to remind residents it is against municipal code to leave a vehicle running with the key in the ignition – drivers can only warm-up a vehicle using an auto-start function or a key-less operation (see municipal code 9.36.010 Duties of driver on leaving vehicle unattended for more information) .
