Loren Dixon filling in for KNBA News Director Joaqlin Estus.

Although Wildfires have increased, there have been no new evacuations. There are 21 new fires in the state of Alaska, bringing the total to 300 fires and burning about 945 square miles in the interior.

Governor Bill Walker plans to pursue a name change for a census district named after a Confederate leader, Wade Hampton. U.S Senator Lisa Murkoswki wrote to Walker urging the name change, which she says she became aware of local concerns about using the name several months ago.

The U.S supreme court decision means more than 16,000 Alaska will be able to keep Federal subsidies to help cover health insurance premium costs. Governor Bill walker says he's pleased because so many people will be able to continue receiving healthcare.

Kenai voters will decide making changes to the city;s election process. The mayor, Pat Porter, proposed the measures which will remove obstacles and will encourage more people to run for office. One initiative would remove the requirements that each candidate submit 20 signatures to be listed on the ballot.

In Kodiak the new leader of the Alutiiq museum, April Counceller, says that leadership roles are often combined in the community. It is common to see faces transfer from one organization to another.
