Listen to the Elders

Thursdays 6:55am, 11:55am & 5:55pmBy Koahnic Broadcast Corporation

Listen to the Elders is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and The CIRI Foundation and is produced by Koahnic Broadcast Corporation with project manager Loren Dixon and project producer Phillip Blanchett.

Listen to the Elders is created to preserve oral histories and entertain its audience. The stories and interviews are accompanied by original music tracks. The mix of music and story blend a sincere event of elder wisdom with each module. With this project, the template is made to continue retelling these valuable stories in a format that speaks to the senses of all.

Project producer Phillip Blanchett designed the series to emphasize characteristics that make the Alaska elder unique.
The modules feature Alaska legends & tales, elder profiles and perspectives on eldership itself. Many guests share stories about their elders and the perspectives that they wanted to pass on. We are extremely grateful to all the Alaska Native Elders and Alaska Elder Pioneers who agreed to share their time, history, stories, and all others who contributed their time and talents.

Alaska radio stations are providing content for this series as well: KYUK, KCUK, KHNS & Radio Free Palmer. As a collective, we have heard our audience and are saying out loud, "Listen to the Elders!"

Listen to the Elders' is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which follows an act of Congress in accordance with the FY 2005 Consolidated Appropriations Bill and The CIRI Foundation. 'Listen to the Elders' is produced by Koahnic Broadcast Corporation in association with the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
