KNBA Brings New Programming to 90.3fm in 2016 KNBA is looking forward to begin a new program schedule in February 7, 2016! While we say goodbye to some long-time favorite shows, we’re adding new programming which will bring more music and Native voices for the KNBA audience. Before making decisions, KNBA has listened to our Community Advisory Board and KNBA members who have participated in a National focus group surveying favorite styles of music and programming. We've relied on this feedback for guidance as we build a schedule which we think will increase listener and member satisfaction. In 2016 public broadcasting in Alaska will again see significant funding cuts by the State. Even with our strong membership and active local fundraising, KNBA’s FY16 & 17 spending needed to adjust due to the decreased funding. Directly affected are the syndicated programs heard on our radio schedule. Syndicated programming is the largest cost in the KNBA budget coming from National Public Radio (NPR), the Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN), Public Radio International (PRI), and Native Voice One (NV1). We have decreased our syndicated programming costs by roughly 65%. We did this by dropping programs and full memberships with the Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN) and with Public Radio International (PRI). Our decision to drop programs from APRN was initiated by their cost, but a deciding factor was that the programs we were airing were already being heard in Anchorage through their home station on KSKA. With two public radio stations in our market, KNBA needs to prioritize our programming choices with an eye to maintain a unique radio schedule and not spend money duplicating programming. We plan to maintain a working relationship with APRN to continue our ability to deliver news stories from Alaska to the KNBA audience. The following programs will no longer be on the broadcast schedule:
