Our Community - Village Spirit in the City!

courtesy of Sobermiut

KNBA keeping you in tuned with Our Community! In today's segment, Danny Preston speaks with President of the Sobermiut organization, Sonia Vent and co-founder/secretary Steven Randazoo. Sobermiut was created in 2004/2005 as a nonprofit that unifies Alaskan Native individuals, families, and communities that reinforces a healthy lifestyle: free of alcohol and drug abuse. Sobermiut will be having a fundraiser for the Alaska Native Community Center. The center is a place where people can get together and just be their selves. Not a lot of the community centers have a focus on the individual and their culture, but the ANCC aides in exactly that.

This Saturday, the fundraising event Village Spirit in the City will be taking place! The event will include Alaska native dance groups, a blanket toss, guest speakers, native games and a sobriety ceremony. The Village Spirit in the City fundraiser will be this Saturday, August 1st from noon until 8PM at the downtown Denali Park Strip!
