Police advisory - APD offers higher pay to hire trained, experienced officers

2/05/26

APD Hiring Alaska Police Officers with Additional Incentives

Anchorage Police Chief Chris Tolley is pleased to announce that the Anchorage Police Department is now hiring law enforcement officers in the state of Alaska who are currently certified with the Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC).

The lateral hires will not be going through a traditional five-month long APD Police Academy. Instead, lateral hires will attend a two-week orientation scheduled to begin Monday, May 23, 2016 followed by field training with an experienced APD Patrol Officer.

The lateral hires will also be subject to a higher pay than an entry-level officer. A lateral hire will be given additional financial compensation for their previous time served based on their prior law enforcement experience.

“This a great time to join the Anchorage Police Department, and we are hoping to hire some amazing professionals among Alaska’s current law enforcement,” said Chief Tolley.

To apply, a lateral applicant must be a certified officer by the Alaska Police Standards Council. The application period for lateral hires closes on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
