1/30/16 - Anchorage Police Department bulletin
On Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 03:09 AM an Anchorage Police Sergeant reported that she had heard several gunshots in the area of 4th and Gambell. Right after that broadcast, another APD Sergeant saw a dark-colored pickup run a red light and leave that same area at a high rate of speed.
As officers began to arrive in the vicinity, a patrol officer was traveling south on Karluk, near 8th Avenue. She saw a white 4-door sedan traveling east on 9th, past Karluk, when she heard several gunshots. The officer then saw a dark silver sedan get behind the white sedan. A male in the silver car was seen hanging outside of the vehicle, with his upper body above the roof (while the vehicle was in motion), firing shots at the white car. The officer lost sight of both vehicles.
Another officer then reported that he had eyes on the silver sedan. Officers began to pursue the silver sedan, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, towards the Glenn Highway. While traffic was light in the area, pursuing officers had to slow down twice due to other vehicles on the roadway not yielding to them. By the time the officers caught up with the silver sedan, it had crashed at Bragaw and the Glenn Highway and the two occupants had run from the area on foot. A perimeter was set up, and a K9 track was conducted, but the two were not caught.
While the pursuit and K9 track were going on, APD received a call from a local hospital that two injured people had been dropped off. The male had a single gunshot wound to the lower backside and the female had a gunshot wound to the leg. Both injuries were non-life-threatening, and both victims were very uncooperative with police. The male was treated and released.
No arrests have been made but police are following up on leads. No suspect information is being released at this time.
