12/31/14 - Gov. Walker names commissioners of Administration, Education

Governor names Commissioners of departments of Administration, Education

Governor Bill Walker has named two more members of his cabinet. Sheldon Fisher, who most recently was chief operating officer at McKinley Capital Management, will become Commissioner of the Department of Administration. Long-time Alaskan Mike Hanley, a former Anchorage school district principal and teacher, will continue on as Commissioner of Education, a post he’s held since 2011.

12/29/14 - Gov. Bill Walker orders no new contracts on six mega-projects

No new contracts for the Knik Arm Crossing, Susitna-Watana Dam, Alaska Stand-along Pipeline, Ambler Road, Juneau Access Road, and Kodiak Launch Complex 

Friday Governor Bill Walker called a halt to six mega-projects pending further review. In a prepared statement, he said he’s told all state agencies to stop non-obligated spending on the Susitna-Watana Dam, Knik Arm Crossing, Alaska Stand Alone Pipeline Project, Ambler Road, Juneau Access Road, and the Kodiak Launch Complex.

12/23/14 - Spending in U.S. Senate race in Alaska totals $60 million

Reports to the Federal Elections Commission show Sen. Mark Begich spent $10 million in  his campaign to retain his seat. Senator-elect Dan Sullivan spend $7.6 million. With PAC spending added in, the total spent on the race was $60 million.
