7/2/14 KNBA News - Expert testifies state of Alaska has a long history of discrimination

Testifying in court on a case alleging the state has failed to provide full language assistance to Alaska Natives in elections, an expert witness cited the requirement in Territorial days when Alaska Natives were not allowed citizenship unless they renounced their own culture.

Donlin Gold and The Kuskokwim Corporation have signed an agreement for Donlin's proposed gold mine 120 miles upriver from Bethel.

The state seeks to join a lawsuit over a road through the Izembeck National Wildlife Refuge linking King Cove to an all-weather airport at Cold Bay.

4/10/14 KNBA News - Senate Finance passes a $2.1 billion budget

The Senate Finance Committee's $2.1 billion budget includes $145 million for a new heating system for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and $2.1 for a road linking King Cove to Cold Bay. It doesn't include $10 million for the Susitna dam project that Administration was seeking.

Some subsistence fishermen are calling for a temporary halt to fishing on the Yukon River after the state has forecast abysmal returns of king salmon.

3/13/14 KNBA NEWS - Two people medevacced from King Cove by helicopter

Two people were medivacced from King Cove to Cold Bay in the Aleutians, where locals continue to push to have a road put in so people can take that trip by road.

Legislators consider advocating for an American Indian Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC.
