6/17/14 News - Galena rebuilds after last year's devasting flood

Construction is underway in Galena, a 400-person village recovering from a catastrophic flood last year, when the break-up of an ice jam caused the Yukon River to overflow.

The seismic storm in the far western arm of the Brooks Range continued on Sunday with a 5.7 magnitude earthquake. Seismologists do not yet know the cause of the powerful quake series that began two months ago.

Juneau police are seeking a man who yelled racial slurs during a parade held towards the end of a 3-day Native gathering.

5/12/14 KNBA News - Federal grants will lower energy costs that are five times the Anchorage rate

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded $5.6 million dollars to western Alaska communities for new equipment and wind turbines that promise lower energy costs.

At a memorial held in Fairbanks on Saturday, law enforcement officers from as far away as Florida mourned the loss of two Alaska state troopers killed on May 1st while trying to make an arrest in the village of Tanana, one of the 23 villages they were assigned to to provide law enforcement.
