5/2/14 KNBA News - Department of Interior announces proposal to accept tribal lands into trust

After a court ruling that the Department of Interior (DOI) improperly excluded Alaska tribes from a process long available to lower 48 tribes, DOI announced a proposal that would allow it to accept Alaska tribal lands into trust. Although any action is years in the future, the change would provide certain protections to those lands.

A study on the depletion of herring in Southeast Alaska is prompting discussions on whether and how it may be possible to replenish their numbers.

3/26/14 KNBA News - Congress is looking into EPA decisions on the Pebble Mine

Congress is asking the EPA to produce documents about the permit review under the Clean Water Act on the Pebble Mine.

Governor Sean Parnell has signed a bill rejecting pay increases for himself and other top state executives.

Galena has its work cut out for it in the coming construction season as it rebuilds from disastrous flooding last year.

Seiners took in 10,300 tons of herring in the first two openings of the sac roe herring fishery in Sitka.
