4/10/14 KNBA News - Senate Finance passes a $2.1 billion budget

The Senate Finance Committee's $2.1 billion budget includes $145 million for a new heating system for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and $2.1 for a road linking King Cove to Cold Bay. It doesn't include $10 million for the Susitna dam project that Administration was seeking.

Some subsistence fishermen are calling for a temporary halt to fishing on the Yukon River after the state has forecast abysmal returns of king salmon.

4/3/14 KNBA News - Senate committee hears a bill to strengthen Alaska tribal courts, law enforcement

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee heard no opposition to a bill that would strengthen Alaska tribal courts and law enforcement, but the state of Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski are likely to oppose it.

Alaska Native corporations received contaminated sites as part of their land settlement, bringing them expense and complications as they try to clean up, exchange, or return the sites.

3/12/14 KNBA News - Critics find the state's approach to law and order for Alaska Natives lacking

Legislators are considering a bill to do away with a film tax credit program, questioning its benefits to Alaska.

The state of Alaska spends more money litigating against its Alaska Natives than do all the other 49 states combined, according to the chairman of a national Commission on Indian Law and Order.
