4/21/14 KNBA News - Legislature to continue session into 91st day

By law, the Legislature is allotted ninety days in session, but despite meeting into the early hours this morning, it hasn't finished its work. It's scheduled to reconvene at 1 p.m. today.

The Federal Subsistence Board has limited any available king salmon to federally qualified subsistence users in 32 Kuskokwim communities.

Alaska's unemployment rate was up a tenth of a percent in March, reaching 6.6%, just one-tenth of a percent below the national average, which has been dropping.

4/10/14 KNBA News - Senate Finance passes a $2.1 billion budget

The Senate Finance Committee's $2.1 billion budget includes $145 million for a new heating system for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and $2.1 for a road linking King Cove to Cold Bay. It doesn't include $10 million for the Susitna dam project that Administration was seeking.

Some subsistence fishermen are calling for a temporary halt to fishing on the Yukon River after the state has forecast abysmal returns of king salmon.
