7/29/14 KNBA News - Anchorage waterways contaminated with e.coli bacteria

People fish, play, and swim in the scores of rivers, creeks, and streams that flow through Anchorage, but officials warn people the waterways harbor high levels of e.coli bacteria, most from dog waste.

The Native Village of Elim is collecting data to accompany an application for an in-stream flow reservation, which would reserve its drinking water watershed, or enough water to support fish habitat. The village is concerned about Triex Minerals, of Canada, began exploratory drilling for uranium hear Elim's largest watershed.

4/10/14 KNBA News - Senate Finance passes a $2.1 billion budget

The Senate Finance Committee's $2.1 billion budget includes $145 million for a new heating system for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and $2.1 for a road linking King Cove to Cold Bay. It doesn't include $10 million for the Susitna dam project that Administration was seeking.

Some subsistence fishermen are calling for a temporary halt to fishing on the Yukon River after the state has forecast abysmal returns of king salmon.
