Sunday is Alaska Native Cultures Day at the Alaska State Fair. 

This year’s Alaska State Fair features Alaska Native voices and faces, particularly at the Gathering Place. Between the leadership of stage director Amy Sparck, the quality of guests and the storytelling and emcee skills of Irene Bedard, the Gathering Place has really transformed into a positive showcase of Alaska Native cultures.

The Alaska Court of Appeals has affirmed a lower court’s decision that Yup’ik Fishermen who fished for King salmon during a state closure should be convicted. The decision was issued Friday (March 27).
