Baggy pants make different music than skinny jeans. Cowboy hats sound different than fedoras. T-shirt-and-jeans bands make a different noise than suit-and-tie bands. You can often look at a band's clothing and have a pretty good idea what it'll sound like.

Angel Olsen On World Cafe

Singer-songwriter Angel Olsen released her debut album in 2011 after spending time working with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Her third album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, was released in February. Olsen's voice can be intense, even chilling, in ways that blend perfectly with her band. She recently moved from Chicago to Asheville, N.C., after recording Burn Your Fire for No Witness there.

Hundreds of acoustic guitars, some dating back to the 19th century, are coming up for auction in New York City. They include Martins, Gibsons, classical guitars from famous Spanish guitar makers, and some exquisite models from Greenwich Village luthier John D'Angelico.
