Anchorage, AK – School bus routes along the Seward Hwy and south of Anchorage are cancelled due to whiteout driving conditions. Unusually high snowfall in Anchorage is forecast to continue. Yesterday the tanker Renda, which is carrying 1.3 million gallons of fuel, and the U.S. Coast Guard ice-breaker Healy, made little to no progress toward Nome due to headwinds, contrary currents, and pressurized ice. Meanwhile fuel is running low in Nome, where temperatures have been below zero since Dec. 24.
