Anchorage, AK – The 29th National Indian Child Welfare Association drew 900 people - the most ever - at an Anchorage conference. The disproportionate number of Alaska Native children in protective custody is an issue. Sixty percent of children in custody are Native, although Natives make up only 17 percent of the population. A Washington, DC, watchdog group has sued to obtain FBI files on its investigation of Alaska Rep. Don Young.
