POSITION OPENING: NV1 Radio Network Manager

Koahnic Broadcast Corporation (KBC) seeks a dynamic Manager to bring its radio distribution service, Native Voice One (NV1), to the next level by expanding its affiliated stations, program offerings and station support services. NV1 provides programs produced by KBC, stations and independent Native American producers from across the country to the public radio system and to listeners on-line. The manager plays a key role in helping KBC fulfill our mission “to be the leader in bringing Native voices to Alaska and the nation.”

The NV1 Manager will be responsible for increasing the number of affiliated stations by developing a plan to identify and secure targeted markets; promoting the programs in various venues and through direct contact with station decision makers; developing ‘group-buys’ where appropriate; ensuring that contracts are in place for all affiliates; tracking and reporting on grant deliverables and goals to KBC board.

Work with the NV1 Advisory Council to annually review fee structure, station and producer guidelines; negotiate agreements with contributing producers; and coordinate with the station relations staff to ensure that affiliates are receiving needed support. Follow up on collecting fees as needed.

In coordination with contracted website manager, ensure that the NV1 stream maintains its sound as a dynamically hosted “internet radio station”; and develop plan for promoting the stream to listeners living outside of a public radio coverage area.

The NV1 Manager will review “Usage Data” using technologies such as Google Analytics and measurement data on social media followers; and work with staff and audience research firms to acquire audience data for the network.

Oversee station and independent producer contacts for acquisition of educational and cultural radio programming that is representative of Native Americans or that addresses issues of particular interest to Native Americans.; work with NV1 Advisory council to serve as a review panel to get broad representation on new program offerings.

Manage station relations staff and outside station sales contractor.  Serve as back up liaison between the stations and public radio satellite provider, PRSS and content depot.

Ensure the development of media kits and other support materials for posting on the website for affiliate use in their fundraising and promotion of NV1 programs. Manage network budget.

Qualifications:

A self -starter with strong organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communications, marketing or related field

Experience working in public radio highly desirable

Some marketing/programming or promotion experience helpful

Work with Native American radio stations and/or Native communities helpful

Awareness of or ability to learn FCC rules regarding program content
