Delvin Anderstrom, of Yakutat, gave a keynote address after Elder Fred John gave his. Anderstrom's  nine-minute address was given in the Tlingit language, a rare achievement for a 17-year-old. He says some ideas are best communicated in their original language.

9/26/14 Magnitude 6.1 quake rattles southcentral, but no major damage or injuries

A 6.1 magnitude quake hit Alaska at 9:51 a.m. Thursday. The Alaska Earthquake Center says the epicenter was about 80 miles northwest of Anchorage.

New poll shows Republican candidate Dan Sullivan in the lead over Mark Begich

APRN's Liz Ruskin reports a new Dittman Research poll shows Republican Dan Sullivan is six points ahead of Democrat Mark Begich in the U.S. Senate race. The research was funded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It ran a pro-Sullivan ad in April and today officially announced its endorsement of Sullivan.

9/17/14 - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan changes position on minimum wage increase

His campaign says Sullivan changed his mind after he read the measure

Before the election primary, in which he faced Tea Party candidate Joe Miller, U.S. Sen. candidate Dan Sullivan opposed Ballot Measure Three, which would increases the state's minimum wage by $2 to $9.75 per hour in two years.  His campaign says Sullivan changed his mind after he read the initiative. Sullivan says he still opposes a federal minimum wage increase. His opponent, Sen. Mark Begich, supports a bill in Congress to increase the federal minimum wage to just over $10 an hour.
